i was hoping other more knowledgeable people might be able to look at this headlight relay wiring diagram and tell me what you think electrically. i was kind of mainly wondering about the jumper wire between terminal 87 on the high beam relay and terminal 87a on the low beam relay. i figure if 12 gauge wire is used every where it should be fine but i am not a electrical guru. i just make things work. i figure the relays should have no problem handling the power since most relays are good for about 30amp and the high and low beam lights together would only draw about 22 amps.

i have a relay in my daily driver that has two output pins, so one relay to operate both low beams and one relay for both high beams...

i'd imagine it's a pretty common relay though i don't know the part number...

sounds like you don't quite understand things. with the way the wiring diagram is the high and low beam lights would both be on at the same time. i know what a relay is.

oh i see, your post isn't very clear. you're really just wondering about the jumper wire?

Looks like a relay setup for a 4 headlamp system.  In my opinion, there isn't much to gain running the low and high beams together in the same lamp.

it could probably be used for 2 or 4 light systems. there is lots of people that use a third relay or diode to activate the low beam relay. having the low beam lights on while the high beams are on makes a pretty big difference. i know lots of places sell kits to do this for $100+.
this is what my RC's high beams look like with the low beam on

It looks like that wire is to run your low beams when you turn on your high beams. Just seems, the arrow for current flow direction, is going the wrong way in the drawing.

lol. if that is the only problem then i should be good. ms paint could take care of that in a couple seconds.

why is pin 30 going to your low beams and battery power going to pin 87?
isn't pin 87 output and pin 30 your 12v from battery?

i would wire it with two relays. one relay for your low beams and anther relay like i mentioned earlier that has dual output pins (the SPST), one output going to your high beams and one to your low beams.

so if you want just low beams you have it, then turn on your high beams and you get your high and low beams...

but that's just me.

thanks Jim but i have already seen that one. i also posted in that thread hoping Jim Lane or someone over there would give me an opinion on it. if it is ok to wire it like that then you would not have to use a 3rd relay or diode which would make things a bit simpler and cheaper.

pin 30 is going to the headlight so that when you turn low beams on it will draw power from pin 87 but when you turn the high beams on it will get power from pin 87a so that both high and low beams will stay on.
